This is my all time favorite cake! Growing up my Grandma always made it for special occasions, even if the special occasion was a celebrating a Friday! This is one of those desserts that I cut a piece off every time I walk by (so I try not to make it too often!!) It’s not a fancy or difficult cake, it’s simple, easy to make and an absolute classic in our family!
I baked it this week to celebrate Kennedy starting preschool. I’m so proud of our girl, she’s growing up so fast! She loves to learn and explore new things, I can’t wait to hear all about the things she learns this year! Kennedy had the best first day and she loved eating her cake when she got home!
Grandma’s Chocolate Chip Cake
- 1 box Duncan Hines yellow butter cake mix
- 1 box vanilla instant pudding mix
- 4 eggs
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup oil
- 1/2 bar bakers chocolate – grated
- 1 6oz package semi sweet chocolate chips (I used the mini ones for this cake because it’s what I had on hand but I generally use regular sized ones)
Mix all ingredients (except chocolate) together in a stand mixer with a paddle attachment or with a hand held mixer until well combined. Fold in chocolate chips and grated chocolate with a spatula
Baked in a greased bundt pan at 350 for 50 minuets to 1 hour
Once baked, turn out and cover with cake dome (glass or plastic, I like to use plastic) while it cools, this helps make the cake nice and moist!
This has always been a family favorite and I’m looking forward to all the special occasions in our future that are celebrated with this cake! Please let me know if you make it for your family!
